First Act GarageMaster Electric Guitar VW Limited Edition!!!

Here's a First Act Garage Master VW Limited Edition guitar in excellent condition. Chances are you already know the story behind these neat guitars, which were given away with the purchase of a new Volkswagen automobile during their acclaimed "Superstars of Guitar" TV commercial campaign featuring John Mayer, Slash, and Christopher Guest as Nigel Tufnel.

The VW-branded Garage Master was never sold in any retail store. That's what makes these guitars so collectable. Some of the press these have gotten is very interesting. There's two main reasons to buy this guitar...

• First, this is a really decent guitar. Unique retro-looks, on-board distortion preamp, good action, fast satin-maple neck. All-in-all a very playable guitar.
   
• Secondly, the VW/FirstAct marketing team did some very clever things to raise the collectability value of these guitars by giving it a full VW branding treatment in the headstock cover, fret markers, control knobs and backplate, along with very prominent serial numbers and ID markings.

As a guitar collector, you don't get a chance to find diamonds in the rough that often anymore. Due to it's limited production and unique distribution model - it is very possible that this guitar will actually appreciate considerably down the road.    While it is doubtful this will reach the price tag of vintage instruments, it's pretty reasonable to expect this guitar will not lose any value over time.

 
This model is white with triple pickguard detail and chrome hardware. The body is basswood. It's reasonably light and very well-balanced. It sports a nice maple neck and rosewood fingerboard with pearl markers including an inlaid "VW" logo at the 13th fret! The black pickguard sports faux-chrome knobs with the embossed VW logo. The stock pickups are unique-looking Alnico humbuckers connected to dual-toggle switches. They're loud and sound good. The minimalist tailpiece and tune-o-matic type bridge are simple and effective. There are additional controls for the onboard preamp which does a nice job of giving you some crunch and boost. It's powered by a single 9V battery.
